Mystery of player that ‘never was’

In April, Olhanense reached agreement with Liga d’Honor side Feirense for the transfer of Henrique at the end of the season.

The 24-year old centre-back was seen as a replacement for Jardel, who was transferred to Benfica in the January transfer window and went on to establish himself in the team that reached the semi-final of the EUFA Europa League.

It therefore came as a surprise to fans to learn that Henrique has been sold to Sp.Braga before he has even donned the shirt of the ‘rubro-negros’.

Braga have bought 80% of the player’s contract with Olhanense retaining a 20% sell-on clause.

It may materialise that Fernando Alexandre, on loan at Olhanense from Braga for the past two seasons, could make a permanent switch to the Algarve side.

Algerian U21 international forward Mehdi Kerrouche and 23-year old Sporting winger Diogo Salomão have also been linked with Olhanense.

The club officials will hope to finalise the squad within the next fortnight as the players report for pre-season training on Monday, July 4.

The fixtures for next season, which starts on the weekend of August 13 and 14, will be released on July 1. Chris Wright
