Anna Fitzgerald was conceived by vitro fertilisation so she could be brought into the world to be a genetic match for her older sister, Kate, who suffers from acute leukaemia. Having her sister depend on her so much, Anna is unable to live the life she wants. When her sister Kate turns 13 she desperately needs a donation of a kidney from Anna, but Kate believes she will not survive the procedure and urges her sister to sue their parents for medical emancipation and rights to her own body.
