Muslim culture celebrated by candlelight

Muslim culture has been chosen as the theme for Lagoa’s first ‘Mercado de Culturas … à Luz das Velas’, taking place this weekend (April 17 to 19) around the Convento de São José – a major feature will be the more than 5,000 candles that will be illuminating this special event.
Organised by Lagoa council and Ibérica Eventos & Espectáculos, the event will include a number of different attractions, including street performances by Muslim actors and musicians, an Oriental dance workshop and even a photo exhibition from Jordan.
Some of the candles will be in the form of symbols from other cultures, like the Christian cross, the Star of David, the Crescent Moon and the Triskelion.
Visitors will be able to purchase handicrafts as well as enjoy dance, music, gastronomy and “other art forms of different cultures and religions”.
The event is open to all and admission is free. The fair opens at 5pm on April 17 and at 12 noon on the two following days.
