A petition led by the Portuguese association of Music Therapy has raised a petition for ‘recognition’. Music therapy is already considered a profession in Austria, Norway and the United Kingdom. It uses sound to help people with social, cognitive, emotional and behavioural problems. Therapists here want to see the subject taught in universities and even included in health programmes. So far the petition has amassed 2000 signatures. It needs 4000 to have a chance to be discussed in parliament.
