Musician turns to acting!

Local musician Colin Burgess has been entertaining people here in the Algarve for many years, playing multiple instruments and singing both solo and in bands.
Therefore, when Melanie Winstanley, director of The Algarveans Experimental Theatre Group, noticed that their latest play “Going Dutch” had a part for a cruise ship entertainer, who sings Neil Diamond songs, she immediately thought of Colin.
“I have seen Colin play in local venues and know what a great musician he is. He has been a member of the Algarveans for a couple of years and has also appeared in pantomime for us; so Colin’s name was in my head when I read the play for the first time,” said Melanie.
Colin added: “I read the play and thought it was so funny I just had to get involved.”
“Going Dutch”, written by John Godber, tells the story of an ill-fated trip to Amsterdam for husband and wife, Mark and Sally. They have taken their best friend Gill and her new boyfriend Karl with them and all does not go to plan, with both very funny and touching consequences.
“John Godber is the third most performed ever British playwright,” said Melanie.“The reason for his popularity is that his characters and plots always seem very real and have that feel that it could really happen.”
“Going Dutch” will be performed at the Lagoa Auditorium from November 27 to 29 at 8pm.
Tickets cost €10.
