‘Two pianos, Forty fingers’ is the name of the concert to take place at Quintinha da Música near Tavira on Sunday, April 13 at 5.30pm.
There will be pieces by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Bizet, Dvorak and Rachmaninov. The four pianists – Inge Lulofs, Birgitta Klein Goldewijk, Irene Ainstein and Frank Fahner – will be together in the Algarve for only this weekend before returning to the Netherlands.
Tickets for this evening are in great demand and details of its location will be available on application to Lynne Booker (see contact details below).
Meanwhile, on Monday April 14, guitarist João Cuña will be giving a talk on the Portuguese guitar in the Municipal Library of Tavira at 6pm.
João has been playing the guitar since the age of 14 and is a well-known performer in the Algarve. He is a soloist on both the classical guitar (the Spanish or acoustic instrument) as well as the Portuguese guitar.
He will explain how the Portuguese guitar came to be developed and will play some pieces specially written for the instrument. He is of course also an accompanist and will explain the relationship of the Portuguese guitar to the quintessence of Portuguese culture, fado.
These events are sponsored by the Algarve History Association. For further details, contact Lynne Booker:
