“Music for Kings and Queens” in Lagoa

The Algarve Orchestra performs the promenade concert at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium on May 21.

The Algarve Orchestra is taking the stage at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa for yet another promenade concert. Entitled “Music for Kings and Queens”, the classical music concert is scheduled to start at 16:30 on May 21.

“Did you know that King George II of England had a composer at his court, whose job was to write music for all his birthdays and every New Year?” questions the event’s organisation.

The concert synopsis explains the performance will delve into “the English crown, one of the oldest monarchies in the world, in an exercise that revisits some of the most important and beloved compositions in all of history, written specifically to be heard by kings of their time, such as Handel’s famous Water Music or Beethoven’s variations on the God save the King melody.”

Concert tickets cost €6 and are on sale at https://cmlagoa.bol.pt/ and the usual ticket offices. Admission is free for children aged 16 and under.

Cultural passport, Lagoa Social card, and Rota do Petisco 2022 passport holders benefit from a 20% discount.
