THE INTERNATIONAL Music Centre (IMC) has recommenced rehearsals at St. Dominic’s International School on Saturdays, from 10am to noon, and is happy to welcome new members.
The IMC began in 1992 at St Dominic’s, allowing children and adults to experience music as part of a group, while developing their own technical and musical skills. The centre has developed into a student orchestra, which meets regularly on Saturday mornings, performing concerts locally and in the Algarve.
The first IMC concert away from home was in 1994 and was represented by a chamber music group, who travelled to the Algarve to combine their musical skills with students from that region. This marked the beginning of a fruitful period of collaboration between students from Lisbon and the Algarve, with some from the south travelling to the capital for the first time in 1995. This tradition of exchange and combined concerts continues to this day. IMC’s first tour abroad was in 1998, when students and tutors travelled to Rome.
