Portimão and Tavira museums were both given special mentions by the national museum association (Associação Portuguesa de Museologia), despite not winning any awards, during a ceremony on November 27 at the Museu do Neo-Realismo in Vila Franca de Xira, north of Lisbon.
A total of 10 awards were presented at the ceremony, which was attended by the secretary of state for culture, Elísio Summavielle. The Museu do Oriente in Lisbon received the award for best Portuguese museum.
