The 19th edition of the Algarve Cup was decided by an injury time goal from Germany forward Mbabi which sealed the 23-year-old’s second hat-trick of the tournament as well as her country’s 4-3 victory over Japan.
Those two contenders for women’s football London Olympics gold medal will renew their rivalry this summer as third placed USA will be sure to return stronger at the same tournament while Portugal can be proud of their narrow 1-0 defeat to China.
Group C winners Wales finished eighth in the Algarve after losing 3-0 to Norway and Ireland eleventh of the twelve participants.
