The Choir of the Friends of the Museum of São Brás will be performing three concerts over the festive season.
The first will be its annual carol concert on Saturday, December 8 in the São Brás museum’s new gallery at 6pm. The group will be performing well-known Christmas Carols from Portugal, the UK and Germany. The bar will be open before the start and during the break. There will be a small entrance fee.
A second concert will then take place in Vilamoura Church on Sunday, December 16 at 6pm, which will be free to attend.
On January 20, the choir returns to São Brás, this time to the church Igreja Matriz, at 6pm, to perform the first of its 2019 concerts. This will include sacred and secular music written by Thomas Walmisley, an English composer and organist from the early to mid-1800s. His Magnificat in D minor has a place in the Anglican choral repertoire. In 1836, he was made Professor of Music at Cambridge.
The choir will also perform the 1500’s piece by Thomas Tallis, “If Ye Love Me” and “Verleih Uns Frieden”, the words of which were written by Martin Luther and set to music, centuries later, by Felix Mendelssohn. This concert is also free.
