news: Multicultural choir to perform in Tavira

A concert by a truly multicultural choir, the Coro dos Amigos de São Brás de Alportel, is taking place tomorrow (February 9) at the Ermida de São Sebastião in Tavira, from 6pm, as part of the ‘Music in Churches’ initiative.

The choir has a membership of 45 singers of various nationalities – German, Scottish, Dutch, English, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish and Swiss.

Founded in March 2006, the choir started with just five female singers but it was the maestro’s wishes that it should develop into a mixed group, capable of interpreting polyphonic music of the Renaissance and Baroque.

The programme for the evening includes works by Purcell, Pachelbel, Orlando de Lasso, Hassler, Mendelssohn and Steuelein, among others.

Entry costs €3 per person.
