Muggings in the Algarve

Dear Editor, As someone who has not visited Albufeira since the 80s, I have decided to return for a weekend with my family at the end of April.

I can’t tell you how dismayed I was to start reading reviews on hotels /apartments to stay in Albufeira and Vilamoura and various people saying their holidays had been ruined by muggings and crimes such as breaking into apartments.

I am truly shocked and worried about coming here with my partner and teenage daughter, and even more so after reading about the poor Scottish soldier.

I am only visiting for a weekend to see if we like the area for a two week summer holiday but I honestly have big doubts now and wish I had booked flights elsewhere.

My daughter is already jittery as she remembers Madeleine very well. The most appalling thing is nothing much seems to be done by the authorities in all these cases.

If it carries on, people like me will just not chance it to holiday in the Algarve. I hope you will post this on the letters page because someone needs to be accountable for holidaymakers wellbeing.
