The USA women’s national football team added a seventh Algarve Cup title to their impressive collection by beating Germany 3-2 in the competition’s final.
On a rain-sodden pitch, the Americans dominated their opponents during a first half which saw both Carly Lloyd and Abby Wambach find the back of the net before Lauren Cheyney added a third in the second. A brace from Inka Grings kept the previously unbeaten Germans in contention.
Third place went to 2009 winners Sweden as Portugal lost their play-off to Iceland to finish in tenth.
