Mouth-watering sweets made by nuns in Lagoa on show

Event || The 12th ‘Mostra do Doce Conventual’, Lagoa’s popular event to celebrate traditional sweets made by cloistered nuns, is again being held at the delightful 18th century Convento de S. José from July 16 to 20.
The event, now in its 12th year, will showcase cakes, sweets, desserts, jams, liquors, the traditional Algarve ‘Dom Rodrigo’ – egg threads with cinnamon, which are said to have been first made hundreds of years ago in the Convento de S. José – and much more.
This year, the show will include sweet makers from the Alentejo, the centre of Portugal and, of course, from the Algarve.
Besides the mouth-watering sweets, there will also be live music and street performances each day.
Entry to the ‘Mostra do Doce Conventual’ is free and doors open from 6pm.
