A 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Wednesday (June 14) when he crashed into a car on the Algarve’s infamous EN125 in Olhão. This new tragedy takes the number of road crash deaths in the Algarve so far this year to 16 – six more than in the same period in 2016.
The accident, described as “so violent the motorcyclist was killed instantly”, happened at around 1pm in the area of Cavacos in Quatrim.
Correio da Manhã tabloid says Bruno Gonçalves was riding home to Fuseta when his bike crashed into a car travelling in the same direction.
An INEM team arrived promptly but “there was nothing they could do”.
Psychologists were also on hand to support relatives who rushed to the scene after learning of the incident.
The other driver, a 67-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Faro Hospital.
