Motorcycling tragedy blights advanced training course at Algarve International Autodrome

One motorcyclist is dead and another seriously injured after a freak collision during a routine advanced training course at the Algarve International Autodrome near Portimão.

The tragedy happened on Saturday morning, and appears to have been caused by one of the bikers accelerating at a point where all the others were slowing down.

The 57-year-old said to have caused the “brutal collision” died in Portimão hospital, while his 43-year-old victim remains interned at the same hospital, writes Correio da Manhã.

Quoting a source for the autodrome, CM says these advanced courses take place twice a year and consist of “teaching driving techniques on the track that can be used in the day-to-day”.~

Action Team of the magazine “Motorciclismo”, the organisation promoting yesterday’s event, is quoted as saying it has already run many courses in which “an accident like this” has never happened.

For now, there are no details on the nationality of either the dead motorcyclist or the one who remains in hospital.
