The mother of three-year-old Jessica, the little girl tortured to death in Setúbal earlier this year, has been arrested by PJ police, along with a 37-year-old man. The brief statement by police last night did not identify the new suspects by name. Three people are already in preventive custody under suspicion of having been involved in the child’s death. Autopsy reports showed Jessica’s body had suffered more than 50 blows. Indeed, it was almost impossible to deduce whether the child could have survived, had she received medical treatment more promptly, said Correio da Manhã in June. UPDATE: the 37-year-old man has been identified as the son of the couple arrested along with their daughter in June.
