Inês Sanches, handed the maximum jail sentence permitted in Portugal for the horrific murder of her three-year-old daughter, “wants to be freed from jail”: Tabloid Correio da Manhã writes that an appeal has already been lodged at Évora’s Court of Appeal “and the strategy is clear: there is no evidence in the case to condemn the defendant. The defence is still clinging to one of the conclusions in the autopsy” that when the beaten little girl was handed back to her mother “there was nothing that could have been done to save her”.
