An elderly woman in her 90s and her son, believed to be aged between 50 – 60, were both found dead yesterday in their home in Leceia, Barcarena (the municipality of Oeiras), which was full of festering rubbish. No signs of foul play are suspected. Authorities suspect the pair died “victims of illnesses associated with the fact that the house with filled with rubbish”, explain reports. Two dogs were found alive among the devastation, and have been removed to an animal shelter. Autopsies will now take place on the bodies to determine causes of death. Police were alerted to the situation by neighbours who complained of the ‘intense smell’ around the property. The mother and son had not been seen for “some days”.
