Around 60% of the 3,177 GWh (gigawatt hours) of electricity generated in mainland Portugal in August came from renewable sources, according to figures released today by the renewable energy association (APREN). “In mainland Portugal, 3,177 GWh of electricity was generated in August 2023, of which 60.7% was of renewable origin,” APREN said in a statement, explaining that the 5.9 per cent increase compared to August 2022 “is due to the 9.4% increase in solar incorporation, producing 425 GWh respectively, compared to 157 GWh in August 2022.”
