With the government moving unilaterally on the reform of the health service (without agreement with unions) more than 100 doctors from four hospitals in the north of Portugal have already submitted requests to be excused from working overtime – jeopardising the preparation of emergency service schedules, FNAM the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam) has said today, suggesting this may be ‘just the beginning’: doctors sent a letter warning the government about excessive overtime earlier this month, with over 1,000 signatories.
