More security for Portugal’s airports

AS FROM June 1, the searching of passengers and luggage at Portugal’s ANA (Aeroportos de Portugal SA) airports in Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Ponta Delgada will be carried out by employees from a private security firm, rather than by the police. However, in order to increase security levels, the police will still be present to supervise operations. This change, that will involve around 850 workers, is estimated to cost around 14 million euros. A public tender for the security contract was won by Spanish company, Prosegur, which will now be responsible for Lisbon, Porto and Faro.Meanwhile, the contract at Ponta Delgada airport has been won by Dutch firm, ICTS.
