Heavy rainfall in the past week may have caused disruption around the region but more rain is needed if reservoirs in the Algarve are to fill to sufficient levels for 2009.
The Arade dam (pictured) is still only 56.1 per cent full while the Barlavento dam is at 74.5 per cent and these levels were only slightly raised by the recent rainfall in the Algarve.
Reservoirs in the Silves area are now at normal levels for this time of year and the rain was welcomed by Silves Mayor Isabel Soares who said: “The rainfall that has occurred in the past few days has been very important to farming in the Algarve.”
