8,000 euro donation for cerebral palsy association

THE FARO branch of the Associação Portuguesa de Paralisia Cerebral, the cerebral palsy association in Portugal, has received a donation of 8,000 euros from Albufeira Câmara. Fourteen young people with cerebral palsy are being supported by the Faro centre and, thanks to the services it provides, they can enjoy a much better quality of life. As well as offering medical assistance, the association also provides special educational support, ambulance service, an occupational activity centre, professional training, sport and recreational activities.

Faro promotes sport

FARO’S SPORTS FAIR takes place on September 23, 24 and 25, forming part of the Algarve capital city’s celebrations. The event, organised by the Algarve University’s Academic Association and Faro Câmara, aims to show and promote the range of sport available in the borough, as well as educate people to adopt lifestyles that involve regular sporting activity. The display takes place in Jardim Manuel Bívar, where there will be 50 stands, manned by local sports clubs, gymnasiums and retail outlets.

Free gifts with Super Bock

PORTUGAL’S POPULAR beer brand, Super Bock, is the subject of a special summer promotional campaign entitled Sunset Super Bock. The brand is promoting special happy hours across the Algarve, offering free gifts for beer drinkers. Every afternoon, between 5pm and 7pm, around 200 participating outlets across the region will be offering a free gift to every Super Bock customer, and the good news is that the promotion is set to continue until August 31! To publicise the campaign, an aeroplane with a large advertising banner will be flying over the Algarve’s beaches between 3.30pm and 7.30pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Improvements to beaches

LAGOA CÂMARA has set aside 184,000 euros to attract tenders for public work to revamp electricity and telephone infrastructures between Praia da Angrinha and Praia dos Caneiros in Ferragudo. The improvements to public lighting are designed to make people feel safer in the areas concerned. Work will also be carried out on underground cables for use in telecommunications. There will also be repairs to the pavements at a later date.

Sweet charity

IN TOTAL, 47 cakes were donated to the Lagos Orphanage to be sold at this year’s Sweet Art Fair, held recently in Lagos. All proceeds went to help the children at the orphanage. The contributions were offered by the lady golfers, their friends and the staff of the Boavista Golf Club in Lagos, the ladies attending Veronica Hutchison’s Pilates classes in Lagos, the staff from Raul Milhano Hairdresser, Chávena dos Cafés in Lagos, Snack Bar Pirilampo in Lagos and Cinnamon, Indian shop in Lagos.

Ayamonte’s music festival

THE 23rd Ayamonte International Music Festival is being held in the Spanish town of Ayamonte (just over the river border from Vila Real de Santo António) and continues until August 16. Concerts take place in the Amador Jimenez auditorium, at the Cardénio Theatre, and feature names well known to Portugal and Spain, such as Dulce Pontes, José Carreras and Joan Manuel Serrat. Ticket prices range from 12 to 30 euros.
