More Blue Flags for Faro’s beaches

BLUE FLAGS have again been awarded to Farol, Deserta and Faro beaches this year and, for the very first time, to Culatra.

The Blue Flag is the international symbol of quality for bathing beaches, awarded on an annual basis by the European Blue Flag Commission, to those beaches that comply with a list of 27 criteria, based on water quality, environmental education, environmental management and equipment.

In addition to gaining a further flag this year, a new municipal project has been launched in Faro to promote environmental education among young people. Centro Azul, a centre promoting environmental awareness, is now open next to the campsite on Faro Island, where various initiatives will be running throughout the summer period.
