INDIA launched its first two-year exploration mission to the moon with an unmanned spacecraft on Wednesday.
The Chandrayaan 1 robotic probe spacecraft, was due to blast off from a launch pad in Andhra Pradesh to orbit the Moon, compiling a 3-D atlas of the lunar surface and mapping the distribution of elements and minerals.
One of the key objectives of this mission is to search the moon’s surface and sub-surface for water-ice, especially at the poles.
