FOLLOWING THE enormous success, in June 2004, of the 13th European Meeting of the Harley-Davidson Owners Group in Monte Gordo, the Algarve resort has been chosen again to stage a four-day entertainment festival, entitled Harley Fun ‘n’ Sun, to take place from May 26 to 29.
In fact, the festival is to be the first in a series of events to be hosted in Monte Gordo, following the signing of an agreement between the Vila Real de Santo António Câmara and Harley-Davidson Europe.
According to the organisers, 600 confirmations have already been received from Harley enthusiasts from several countries, including the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, Poland and Holland and, of course, fans of the brand here in Portugal.
The festival will encompass an area of around 53,000sqm along the coast, including the Monte Gordo Casino.
The event is open to ‘Harlistas’ (Portuguese name for fans of the brand), as well as the general public. Those taking part will be treated to a whole range of activities and entertainment, including games, guided tours, a bike-show, fashion show, acrobatics by world champion Craig Jones, as well as musical entertainment from Pink Floyd tribute band, Off the Wall, a show that will include fireworks and many special effects. Also lining up to perform at the event are The Code, a Beatles tribute show entitled Los Escarabajos, with support from Mingo & the Blues Intruders. There will also be entertainment from Xuxu, a special Harley-Davidson singer, and Strenos, a Spanish cover band that play songs by Bon Jovi and Metallica, among others.
The event will also feature a Harley-Davidson parade that will take place on May 28, setting off from Monte Gordo Casino and travelling across to Ayamonte in Spain – a journey of around 30km.
