Faro’s environmental protection branch of the GNR police and members of the Lisbon’s conservation and biodiversity institute rescued a monkey from an apartment in Faro on July 30.
According to a GNR spokesman, the plight of the monkey, commonly known as Macaco Verde, was brought to the authorities’ attention as a result of a tip-off.
The monkey was brought into Portugal around 30 years ago and had lived on the veranda of a Faro apartment ever since.
The monkey will undergo a period of quarantine before being moved to an ecological park.
