Consumers spent €100 million more on shopping this Christmas when compared with 2009.

According to data from SIBS, the company that manages the ATM (Multibanco) machines in Portugal, €784 million was spent between December 20 and 26 in comparison to the €684 million in the same period in 2009.

With regard to withdrawals from ATM machines, consumers withdrew €578 million during Christmas week, €49 million more than last year.

According to SIBS data, each consumer withdrew an average of €74 a day from ATM machines in 2010, while each spent a daily average of €45 on shopping.
