Money men

BRAIN SCANS have revealed that how good a man feels is dependent on how much his colleague earns in comparison.

Scientists studied 38 pairs of male volunteers performing the same task with the promise of financial rewards for correct answers. In each pair, the two men played against each other and were told of the other’s success or failure.

The ventral striatum, the brain area where part of the ‘reward system’ is located, lit up when volunteers earned money and showed far more activity if a player received more than his partner.
