Monchique Câmara is hosting the second Ecofest, an event which combines music and the area’s natural environs, from today (Friday) until Sunday.
The festival gives visitors the opportunity to get in touch with nature in the Monchique area allied with world music performances during the three day event.
The free admission festival, which takes place in the centre and outskirts of the town of Monchique, aims to raise awareness about ecological issues through music, outdoor activities and environmentally sustainable actions.
A spokesman for the organisation said: “Ecofest represents an opportunity to celebrate culture, the environment, nature and the landscape heritage of Monchique.”
Musical highlights will be performances by Andalusian bands La Selva Sur tomorrow (Saturday), who will be presenting the sounds of ska, reggae and funk musical styles, and the folk rhythms of Rare Folk on Sunday.
The Algarvean folk band Marenostrum goes on stage on Sunday followed by a performance of dance and electronic music by Brazilian band Napalma.
Ecofest also features various outdoor activities in the Monchique surroundings, including donkey rides, walks, bike rides, abseiling, among other activities for visitors.
Guests will also have the chance to participate in workshops of pottery, vegetarian cooking, and a fair of contemporary crafts, local produce and recycled materials.
