Monchique council will have two teams of Bombeiros covering the area this summer, with each team consisting of five fire fighters, working 24 hours a day until October 15.
One of the teams will be based at the headquarters in the council and the other will be located in the parish of Marmelete.
The teams will be partly subsidised by the Câmara, to the tune of €36,000, as “the daily allowance allocated by the Civil Protection will not be sufficient to meet the costs of recruitment, food and other expenses”.
A spokesman from Monchique Câmara said: “This is an investment that is essential for the council. Our fire fighters must have the proper conditions to work in the prevention of fires.”
