Moncarapachense overcome local rivals

Olhanense fans sorely disappointed after defeat

Olhanense face an uphill struggle if they are to gain promotion to Liga 3. After losing at home, the previous week, to Fontinhas (Azores), it was imperative that the Olhão outfit collected all three points in the local derby against Moncarapachense.

But the home fans were to be sorely disappointed as another substandard display ended in defeat. The visitors started nervously but grew in confidence and, 10 minutes from time, Nuno Silva headed home, direct from a corner, past Olhanense keeper Galli.

Any hope the home side had of salvaging a point disappeared when Gabriel netted Moncarapachense’s second goal in the last minute of normal time.

After four games, Fontinhas top the group with nine points; Os Belenenses have eight and Moncarapachense are in third place with seven points. Olhanense remain bottom on two points.

On Sunday, Moncarapachense entertain Os Belenenses at the Estádio da Torrinha, Moncarapacho, just off the high street, kick-off 4pm.

Olhanense travel north to play Sertanense knowing that they must win their remaining six games to have any chance of promotion.
