Monarch inaugurates route to capital

MONARCH SCHEDULED’S Airbus 320, with its capacity to carry 180 people, left London en route for Lisbon for their inaugural flight on May 19. Landing on time for a baptismal spray of water, the low fare paying passengers were pleased with the summer-like morning that greeted them on their arrival in the Portuguese Capital City.

Monarch Scheduled’s low cost, coupled with excellent service, has allowed the airline to carry millions of passengers in safety and comfort to their European destinations. Already flying into Faro, this added route will allow the airline to become a household name in low cost air travel to Portugal’s capital.

Jonathan Crick, Monarch Scheduled sales and marketing director at Lisbon airport, said he was pleased with the pre-booked sales figures from Lisbon to London. “They have exceeded our expectations and so did the numbers flying in our inaugural flights both ways,” he said, adding that probably over 90 per cent of bookings were now obtained online, with a passenger saving around 16 euros. Seats can also be booked online, so no scrambling to get a window or aisle seat, or extra leg room is necessary!

Opening up this new route, he said, is a great advantage for business passengers, students and holiday-makers to the capital. Frequent passengers are rewarded with innumerable benefits through their programme of frequent flyer, Vantage Club. There are extended offers in London with low cost partners for car parking, hotels and car hire. Jonathan said: “I am confident that this formula of low cost and high quality of service will be an enormous success in Lisbon.”

The tariffs of Monarch Scheduled start from as little as 25 euros plus taxes. Prices include the offer of a daily newspaper and a service of hot towels. Monarch Scheduled also provides a choice of a hot or cold meal from four euros.
