Momentum grows in Carvoeiro

Residents and business owners in Carvoeiro met on March 23 to form two associations, one for commercial entities and another for residents, to act as a voice for the people of Carvoeiro who want to see changes made to the popular fishing Town.

The associations, each comprising of an administrative council made up of eight members of the local community, have been created to lobby Lagoa Câmara into making changes in the town.

Resident Siân Hughes Roberts, who works in the town and attended the meeting, said: “It was decided that the time needed to register the associations and gain legal status would not stop the process of lobbying the Câmara.

“Time is of the essence, and the meeting is urgently seeking some solution in either April or May, before the holiday season begins in earnest.”

The next meeting of the associations is to be held on April 6 from 8.30pm at the Sociedade on Rua dos Pescadores and it is hoped that a member of Lagoa Câmara will be present. Meanwhile, the petition asking for changes to be made to the road network and parking situation in the town has gained a further 250 signatures, taking the total to more than 650.
