Stripped naked and holding posters with the message “Naked Truth: Mali the Elephant Is Suffering”, sexy models in Manila, Philippines, along with Morrissey, the British pop singer and writer JM Coetzee (Nobel Prize Winner for Literature in 2003) posed for a new ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to animal rights.
“Mali”, the elephant, has always lived locked in a cage since it was donated by the government of Sri Lanka 35 years ago.
Now, the elephant is sick and PETA launched a campaign on behalf of Mali so it could be transferred to an elephant sanctuary in northern Thailand.
