On Monday, May 24, all the interested parties finally signed the Protocol (Agreement) for the Mobile Mammography Unit, bought thanks to the charitable efforts of so many Algarve residents. Now, the seven year dream of Dr. Santos Pereira, President of the Associação Oncológica do Algarve, is to become a reality – women in the region will have access to mobile breast cancer screening. The signatories were Dr. Carlos Martins, Secretary of State for Health, Dra. Assunção Martinez, President of the Administração Regional de Saúde, Dr. José Gonçalves Júnior, President of Faro Hospital, Dr. António Natalino Alves, President of Barlavento Hospital, Portimão and Dr. Santos Pereira. The Secretary of State for Health was in Monchique to inaugurate the new extension of the area Centro de Saúde. This extension is very important to the people of Monchique because it means that the Centro de Saúde can now be open to provide health care 24 hours a day. Also present was Dr. Carlos Tuta, President of the Câmara Municipal de Monchique.
