Mixed reactions to Miguel Macedo’s replacement

She has been described as the “woman of firsts”, but the truth is there have been mixed reactions to the appointment of the new Minister for Internal Administration, replacing Miguel Macedo who resigned on Sunday after the Golden Visa scandal broke.
Anabela Rodrigues, formerly the first female director of Coimbra University’s legal faculty, was also the first female director of the Centre for Judicial Studies (CEJ). She is now the first woman to hold this government post. But her past has its share of controversy.
Her appointment to the CEJ caused trainee judges to walkout and a bid for the European Court of Human Rights saw Strasbourg reject her, along with two others, for “lacking in quality”.
