Portugal’s Internal Affairs Minister is travelling to the Algarve today (June 26) to present the government’s ‘Algarve Seguro’ programme at the headquarters of the regional tourism board (RTA) in Faro at 4pm.
The programme is unveiled every year and usually includes substantial police reinforcements to make the region as safe as possible for residents and holidaymakers alike in the summer.
Last year, over 550 additional police officers were deployed to the Algarve (click here).
But with the pandemic forcing most events to be cancelled and taking its toll on the number of tourists visiting the Algarve this year, it remains to be seen whether the number of police agents will be adjusted accordingly.
