Minister says Portugal can become a “star of the sea”

Assunção Cristas, Minister of Agriculture and Sea, said on Tuesday (May 12) that the government is committed to making Portugal a “world-famous star” in terms of the sea.

“We believe it will help our economy become a star as well,” she said.

To complete this goal, Cristas guaranteed the government will continue supporting maritime-based companies.

“We want to show the world that we have the ambition to take the extra step,” she said.

For that to happen, she says national and foreign businesspeople have to invest in areas that are still underdeveloped.

The minister added that Portugal has great potential for sustainable growth of some sea-related sectors, such as “biotechnology, aquaculture, fish processing, maritime transportation and water sports”.
