Dia, the Spanish distribution chain that runs Minipreço supermarkets in Portugal, has expanded by seven outlets this year, bringing the number of stores available in this country now to 620.
Four new supermarkets have just opened in the Greater Lisbon area (Cova de Piedade, Rinchoa, Setúbal and Marvila), while there are new Minipreços also in the Algarve (Monte Gordo), Alentejo (Arraiolos) and Braga (Apúlia).
The new stores have created 46 new jobs and Dia is also branching out into what it calls its Minipreço Market concept – an even fresher alternative to the traditional stores, with improved bakery, delicatessen, cakes and salt-cod sections, as well as a separate space for wines (garrafeira).
The chain characterised by its daily “specials” reserved for card-holders has teamed up with the Clarel toiletries and beauty products chain, which now has 56 outlets in Portugal.
