Mine explosion in Russia kills 18

An explosion at the Vorkutinskaia mine in Komi, northern Russia on Monday, has killed at least 18 miners. According to a spokesperson for the Ministry for Emergency Situations in Russia, four miners managed to reach the surface but, at the time of going to press, 18 were reported dead after being trapped under the rubble. The spokesperson added that the situation is “currently being analysed.” Officials blamed a buildup of methane gas.
