AIRPORT MANAGEMENT company, ANA Aeroportos, has spent a total of 80 million euros since 2006 to improve Lisbon’s Portela airport and is expected to invest another 300 million euros by 2011.
A new fire station has been constructed at Portela airport to enable firemen to reach a plane in trouble within the internationally stipulated time of three minutes.
“This is an investment in Lisbon’s new airport,” said Public Works minister, Mário Lino on Tuesday, adding that these renovations will maintain and reinforce the conditions at Portela airport so that the transfer from one airport to another (in Alcochete) can be carried out.”
As well as the fire station, ANA Aeroportos has also built a new terminal dedicated to the Azores and Madeira islands, improved the commercial areas and navigation system as well as opened two new platforms that will accommodate a further 12 aeroplanes at Portela airport.
