Millions owed to Águas do Algarve

Algarve Câmaras have an accumulated debt of more than €60 million to water authority Águas do Algarve.

The President of the Algarve Câmaras Association (AMAL), Macário Correia, acknowledges that the situation is “very serious”. He said: “It is not correct that there are Câmaras in the region retaining the money paid by consumers.”

AMAL President said that Câmaras with larger debts have already signed an agreement with Águas do Algarve to pay the debt

in phases.

Águas do Algarve is owed €29.4 million for water services, €27.5 million for sanitation services and €3.1 million for other services.
