The controversial demolition of 835 coastal properties up and down the country began this week in Esposende where 27 properties were demolished for a reported cost of €2.1 million. The reason: the ongoing risks of coastal erosion and the fact that the properties were not duly licensed. Further million-euro demolitions are taking place throughout the year. In all, 835 homes will be razed to the ground for the princely sum of €300 million.
