Learn more about bringing nature into your garden in the Algarve during a special garden open day on June 16 from 2pm at the Hapimag Resort in Albufeira, organised by the Algarve section of the Mediterranean Garden Society.
The resort garden is a unique showcase for the use of native plants on a large scale and is considered by the society to be an important resource for any gardener in the Algarve looking to improve their knowledge of gardening in the region.
During previous visits to the site, members have been able to follow the development and planting of the garden and during the open day, which is open to everyone, there will be talks and guided tours of the area.
Claudia Schwarzer, a landscape gardener and the designer of the garden, will be making a presentation on rock roses of the Algarve, which will be followed by a talk by biologist Udo Schwarzer entitled Flower Professionals: Butterflies of the Algarve.
A guided tour of the garden will be led by garden manager Marilyn Kahan, with attention being focused on the construction and establishment of a sustainable garden.
After learning about the garden there will be opportunity to take part in a special dinner menu based on the flavours of the Mediterranean followed by a theatre performance of My Wonderful Olive Tree, a theatre show in English based on the life of an olive tree.
Rosie Peddle said: “Members of the Mediterranean Garden Society Algarve will have an information stand while we hope this will be an opportunity to celebrate Midsummer and meet other people interested in welcoming nature into their gardens.”
Admission to the Garden Open Day costs €25 per person, with overnight accommodation available.
