A variety show entitled Midsummer Cocktail is being held on June 20 at Lagoa Auditorium to raise funds for the financially-troubled voluntary firefighters.
There will be a wide variety of artists, from singers and dancers to two pianists playing all your favourite classics along with musical groups and the ladies barbershop quartet Bella A Cappela.
Volunteers who make up the firefighting emergency services in Portugal are called ‘The Soldiers of Peace’ but are officially known as Bombeiros Voluntários.
Jenny Grainer, who is helping promote the event organised by the All Saints Church, said: “What would we do without them? From fighting fires to pulling injured people out of wrecked cars and getting them to hospital, these wonderful men and women are an essential part of our everyday lives and right now they are in crisis.
“Funding is drying up and the coffers are empty. Salaries for essential workers are going unpaid and new and important equipment remains out of reach.”
A raffle will be held with some generous prizes and a bar will be available both before the show and during the interval.
Tickets cost €10 and can be booked on [email protected] or by phoning 282 381 201.
