MIDDLESEX COUNTY Cricket Club has been staying at Barringtons Hotel Golf and Health Spa in Vale de Lobo for training and relaxation.

The focus of the Algarve pre-season training camp is on fitness, fielding and team bonding, while integrating new playing and coaching staff during various mini-competitions held throughout the stay.

The team arrived last Thursday (March 6) and were due to leave yesterday (Thursday).

Apart from training, the team has been relaxing and some of the members played football on Tuesday morning before training resumed on the cricket pitch in the afternoon.

First team coach Toby Radford said: “The trip to Portugal has been an opportunity to do some outdoor middle practice, a bit of hard training and some team building.”

He added: “Our programme includes using the squash courts, gym and beach for competitive fitness sessions, as well as partaking in some mountain biking and orienteering.

“All in all, the venue should provide exactly what we require for the squad to hit the season in peak physical, mental and technical condition.”
