Repair works are taking place in Carvoeiro to upgrade the calçada paving in parking spaces throughout the town, with metered parking to be introduced soon.
Parking in the holiday hotspot of Carvoeiro has long been a contentious point among residents and business owners, with some claiming previously that the new design of the downtown area restricted the parking options in the town as spaces were removed in the new town layout.
Now there is a new free parking area which has been created in the Monte Dourado area of the town to provide alternative parking options in Carvoeiro, and this is sign posted from the first junction on Rua do Barranco.
Meanwhile, the parking spaces located on Rua do Barranco between the A Vela restaurant and Innside Caffe, have now been repaired in preparation for parking meters to be installed.
Cláudia Boto from Vozes Intensas, the town’s association for business owners and residents, told the Algarve Resident: “The metres will be installed soon and will cost 80 cents an hour with the Junta of Carvoeiro being responsible for them and receiving the money from them.”
She added: “We knew that metered parking would be coming into Carvoeiro but did not know that it would be so soon, although it is good that the money is being given back to Carvoeiro.”
While the calçada is being repaired in the town before the summer season gets fully underway, the Junta has also declared that the benches in the centre of the town are to be painted.
“We are pleased that efforts are being put in by the Junta to make Carvoeiro look a more appealing place before all the tourists arrive in the coming summer months,” added Cláudia Boto.
Meanwhile, the summer beach party being planned by the association to take place on June 25 is still awaiting the correct licences.
